EXHIBITION AT THE
MUSEU DA CASA BRASILEIRA DURING THE DESIGN WEEK SAO PAULO
AUGUST 25, 2018 – OCTOBER 21, 2018
THE FIRST EXHIBITION IN SOUTH AMERICA
UNDER THE PATRONAGE OF THE SWISS CONSUL GENERAL
ABOUT THE SWISS CREATIVE ATELIER Oï FROM LA NEUVEVILLE
The museum – the so called MUSEU DA CASA BRASILEIRA – is located in one of the most important commercial streets of Sao Paulo – The Faria Lima – and looks like a classical Palladian style villa built by a textile tycoon and is an ideal place to stage the work of Atelier Oï impressively. The museum is since decades specialised on design, architecture and applied art and became the first address in this fields in South America.
Intended is a classical art/architecture exhibition following the strength of the Palladian museum building. Of importance is, that the ideas behind the work become visible and can be experienced by the visitors.
These are always processes leading from experimental material studies to spaces, architectures and products. The spaces are dedicated to architecture, interior design, product design, scenographies and free kinetic art installations.
Based on experimental material studies Atelier Oï has created luminaires, rooms or even furniture, such as this chair for the “Objets Nomades” collection by Louis Vuitton. Many of theses studies and their results are shown in the exhibition.
A 460 page catalog will document as a unique monograph the global development of the work of the Atelier Oï: Starting out from the shores of Lake Biel, the Atelier has completed more than 260 boutiques worldwide, which has shaped the image of Swiss and French luxury companies all over the world. How forms, objects and spaces are created from the cultured handling of materials is one of the main messages of the exhibition and the catalog. The catalog will be partly financed by duoble page ads of major Swiss companies.
The 460 catalog gives an overview of the experimental and professional working methods of the studio.
The catalog shows the diversity of creativity, ranging from playful free studies to the development of luxury objects for companies such as Bulgari and Louis Vouitton. One focus is on innovative architecture and interior design.
The catalog tells the story and evolution from a local design group to a global player.
Founded by Aurel Aebi, Patrick Reymond and Armand Louis in the 1990s, Oï has consistently developed into one of the most important design offices in Switzerland.
The exhibition is organized as a non-profit venture sponsored by institutions and mainly Swiss companies.
The Swiss Consul General in Sao Paulo will take over the patronage and a 460 strong catalog will be published for the exhibition. Here, the supporting companies can appear in double page ads.
Handmade Industry – the Work of Atelier Oï Switzerland is an exhibition that will cover the entire Museu da Casa Brasileira in Sao Paulo – for the sponsors an occasion to apear in the Brazilian market in a cultural context.

Why we talk about Handmade Industry now? In the age of digital transformation, people are returning to traditional values as well. Atelier Oi calls this “thinking with the hands”. And indeed, this attitude produces compelling results in the areas of architecture, interior design and product design.
